What a certification portfolio pays
Verification is a labour business wearing a software costume: the fee is person-days plus liability, not
seats. Move the inputs and watch where the margin actually comes from.

Where the money comes from
Year 1 is a verification year: first-time assessment dominates. From year 2 the recurring base is
surveillance plus labels, which is why the margin improves without new sales.
What the buyer pays separately
Model, not forecast. Person-days are fixed per engagement: 6 for the first-year verification, 2 for
surveillance, 0.5 for administration, plus a 5% label sample at 0.08 day each;
day rate ¥3,800 plus 25% overhead. No customer has bought this yet — the ramp is an assumption, the
arithmetic is not.
